On October 4, 2023, Shibuya Startup Support (SSS) co-hosted Berlin Comes to Japan in collaboration with Expansion Lab at Portal Point Shibuya. Expansion Lab is an Asia expansion support program for Berlin-based startups, ecosystem builders, and research institutions.

Seminars on SSS Visa Program and Business in Japan
SSS held a seminar at Portal Point Shibuya on September 25th, the first day of Expansion Lab’s program in Japan, to introduce the SSS visa program and discuss foreign startups launching in Japan. This seminar included an introduction to the visa program by the SSS visa team, and how to find local partners and country managers by the SSS community team. In addition, SSS visa holder Bilal Kalouni of ekei labs, a startup that provides testing kits and apps to establish longevity and health measures, spoke about his experience starting a business in Shibuya.

Berlin Comes to Japan
In addition to introductions to SSS and the Expansion Lab, pitches by startups and ecosystem builders participating in the Expansion Lab program and networking took place at Berlin Comes to Japan, held in collaboration with SSS.

Berlin Comes to Japan attracted not only participants from Berlin, but also entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem builders from other countries who are considering locating in Tokyo. The event also featured a flourishing exchange of ideas from different perspectives among participants in the Q&A sessions and networking after the pitches from various fields such as apparel, IT, AI, and research services.
SSS will continue to strengthen collaborations with startups or the ecosystem in Berlin. We will promote overseas collaboration efforts and support overseas startups to enter the Japanese market.
